Security Guard’s Application & Processing
New York State law dictates that all Security Guard’s must go through an application process and a background fingerprint check before he/she is issued a New York State Security Guard’s License. To obtain your Security Guard License you must complete these 2 steps:
Step 1:
Contact L1 Enrollment to set up a fingerprinting appointment. When you set up the appointment you are going to advise that you wish to be fingerprinted at our location (Gold Shield Training Center, 4 South Sixth Avenue, Mount Vernon, NY 10550). Our fingerprinting appointments are Monday – Friday 10:00am – 4:45pm. L1 Enrollment can be reached by phone at 1-866-326-5309 or on the web at www.L1ID.com.

Civilian Personnel:
Step 2:
On the day of your scheduled appointment, visit our location with the following items:
- New York State Driver’s License or New York State ID Card
- Bank or Postal Money Order for $36.00 payable to NYS Dept of State
- Fingerprint Receipt from L1 Enrollment
- 8 Hour Pre-Assignment Training Course Certificate
- 16 Hour On-the-Job Training Course Certificate (if completed)
- Cash or Money Order for $20.00 payable to Gold Shield Training Center
- * Certificate of Disposition (if you were ever arrested)
Retired Law Enforcement Personnel:
Step 2:
On the day of your scheduled appointment, visit our location with the following items:
- New York State Driver’s License or New York State ID Card
- Retired Law Enforcement ID Card
- Good Guy Letter
- Police Academy Certificate
- Bank or Postal Money Order for $36.00 payable to NYS Dept of State
- Fingerprint Receipt from L1 Enrollment
- Cash or Money Order for $20.00 payable to Gold Shield Training Center
- * Certificate of Disposition (if you were ever arrested)
- ** Security Guard Training Waiver Certification
Gold Shield Training Center will complete the New York State Application, Fingerprinting, and also give you a receipt with a copy of the completed application for your record keeping.
Once you have obtained your Security Guard’s License, an 8 Hour Annual In-Service Training Course must be completed each year.
*Certificate of Disposition is a document you receive explaining the outcome of an arrest. If you had two arrests, you should have two Certificates of Dispositions and so on…. You can obtain a copy of your Certificate of Disposition from the court house of the jurisdiction you were arrested in. (For example: If you where arrested in Mount Vernon, NY then you would need to obtain a copy from the City of Mount Vernon Court House.)
** Security Guard Training Waiver Certification is a form used to apply for a waiver of required training for security guards.
