NYS & NYC Firearms Licenses

Gold Shield Training Center is the “leader” in assisting people with obtaining Firearms Licenses.  We offer Professional Full Service unmatched to any other training school in the New York area.

On September 1, 2022, the gun laws in New York State changed including firearms training and licensing requirements.  New York State has not only made the process to own a firearm extremely complicated to understand, but it has also increased its licensing fees while making the renewal date of the firearms license shorter.

Gold Shield Training Center will continue to professionally train and assist our students in the licensing process.   While New York State continues to make the process complicated, our commitment to making the licensing process easy and understandable is way stronger!

Licensing and training requirements may change county to county.  If you live outside Westchester County or New York City, please send a direct email to info@goldshieldtraining.com.

Eligibility:  In order to be eligible to apply for a firearms license in New York State/City you must be a resident of New York State or have a business need in New York State/City.  You also must apply for the firearms license in the County you live in.  If you live out of state but are a business owner in NYS/NYC, or you are a person who needs to work with a firearm in NYS/NYC, you may be eligible for the firearms license for “possess / carry during employment” only.

WESTCHESTER COUNTY RESIDENTS:

Pistol License:  If you are a resident of Westchester County, you need to obtain a pistol permit in order to obtain a handgun. You must be at least 21 years old and complete the proper training administrated by live instruction.  An online course is not accepted.  There are two choices for a pistol license: Premise License Only and Concealed Carry.

If you wish to apply for the premise license, you need to complete the Basic Pistol Safety Course.  If you wish to apply for the concealed carry license, you need to complete the NYS Concealed Carry Firearm Safety Training Course and 2 Hour Live Fire Assessment.  We offer these courses INCLUDING Full-Service Assistance with completing the Westchester County Pistol Permit Application. This includes the Application Professionally Typed, Passport Photographs, Notary Public Services, Assistance with Purchasing a Handgun (which must be purchased prior to approval) and Typed Letters of Explanation (if necessary).

Semi- Automatic Rifle License: Effective September 4, 2022, New York State passed a law for state residents to obtain a Semi-Automatic Rifle License in order to purchase such rifle.  This law does not apply to shotguns, nor does it apply to bolt actions, lever actions or any other actions besides semi-automatic.  If you have owned any semi-automatic rifles prior to this law, you can continue to own them without a license.  However, to acquire additional semi-automatic rifles after this law went into effect, a valid Semi-Automatic Rifle License must be obtained.  Gold Shield Training Center offers Full-Service Assistance with completing the Westchester County Semi-Automatic Rifle Application. This includes the Application Professionally Typed, Passport Photographs, Notary Public Services, Assistance with Purchasing a Semi-Automatic Rifle and Typed Letters of Explanation (if necessary).

OUT OF STATE / NON RESIDENT PISTOL PERMITS:

It is not a legal requirement for you to reside in the state in which you are applying for a pistol permit. Most states offer a non-resident pistol permit. New York State does not share reciprocity with any other state, therefore, if you wish to travel outside New York State we recommend obtaining additional state licenses. We offer assistance with completing many state pistol permit applications. Please contact us for additional details.
